The goal of the current research project is to develop a methodology for the automated detection of pavement cracks and other road defects using the high-resolution orthophotos of road surfaces. The outcome of the project is aimed at institutions responsible of road maintenance and administration (including Estonian Road Administration) and can be used for the quality control of subcontrators. It is also applicable for assessing the state of roads in urban environment so as to plan cost-effective road maintenance.
