Abstract

Virtual reality is rapidly growing filed, which has potential to benefit in various disciplines from medicine to design. Given thesis titled “3D Modeling and Texturing for VR Applications on the example of Tallinn Town Hall Square Project” describes 3D modeling and texturing for VR applications. Thesis provides an overview of the basics and workflow for 3D modeling and texturing. This thesis is based on Virtual Tallinn Town Hall project, which was developed in Re:creation laboratory as a student project. The main purpose of this thesis is to cover necessary knowledge of 3D modeling and texturing needed for creating a virtual reality application. The second goal is to apply this knowledge to create a fully immersive VR application. The end result is a description of 3D modeling and texturing methods and workflows which consecutively resulted in working Virtual Tallinn Town Hall VR application. The VR application was created using CryEngine V game engine and is playable on HTC Vive. The first section is introduction. In the second section author describes the basic aspects of 3D modeling and gives a full workflow example of house 3D modeling. In the third section author gives an overview about texturing, which consists of UV-mapping, materials, texture creation and texture mapping. The last section is conclusion which includes outcomes of the thesis and further development possibilities.
